Importance of English

Language is the written and spoken method of combining words to create meaning, used by a particular group of people. Language is the most systematic means of communicating by the use of sounds or conventional symbols. In simple terms, any means of communicating ideas, the expression of ideas by the voice and sounds articulated by the organs of the throat and mouth is a language.

To communicate and express ourselves smoothly, language is the most essential tool. Therefore, potentially it remains a communicative medium capable of expressing ideas and concepts as well as moods, feelings and attitudes.

Among all the languages known to human race, English is widely spoken over the globe and due to this it has often been referred to as a ‘world language’, the ‘lingua franca’ of the modern era. Withholding the status of being an international language, there are about 5, 72,207,510 people over globe speaking English as their basic communicating language.

English is the highest used medium of instruction in schools and institutions worldwide. The language is most suitable for administrative, legal and medical work.

Considering the history, the English language has survived severe criticisms and has come out as a winner. Majorly, English removes the regional and linguistic barriers, providing a common platform of communication for the people, who speak different dialects and languages internationally to a quite major extent.

English literature has its profound impact on the diverse global society. As the world is becoming a global village, holding its importance, English is considered to be the most used of almost all the languages. People of dissimilar nations may think in their mother tongue but English language remains primary to them for communication.
